Nellie Madron, beloved “Mimi,” passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on April 14th, 2024. A proud member of the Tohono O’Odham Nation, Nellie was born at home on July 14, 1947; she was the daughter of Ernest and Victoria Flores.
Nellie lived in the Wellton area most of her life, graduating from high school in 1966. After graduating, she married Ronald Lynn Madron on March 17, 1967. She and Lynn continued to live in the Mohawk Valley area and spent their time raising their two sons, Lance and Jeff. After the boys were grown, Mama could be found watching Papa sing karaoke, taking trips to the casinos, and being with family.
Nellie's life was marked by her unwavering love and dedication to her family. She was rarely known by her given name, but instead by “Mama” or the name her grandchildren gave her, “Mimi.” Family played a central part in Mimi’s life, and she was known as a fierce protector of her sons - a little intimidating early on for her daughters-in-law - and was always there for her grandchildren. She was happy to know her great-grandchildren so well. Mimi liked to support her Diamondbacks and could be regularly found in her favorite championship T-shirt. She was a lifelong 49ers fan and loved watching episodes of Law and Order and Chicago Fire. Mimi was strong-willed, had a great sense of humor, and was devoted to the family she and Papa had grown.
She is survived by her son, Lance, and his wife, Rosemary. Nellie's heart overflowed with pride and joy for her grandchildren, Lance "Scooter" (Lexi) and Ashley (Chappy). Their families, in turn, blessed her with five great-grandchildren. Nellie remained close to her daughter-in-law, Jen (Sigrist), the wife of her son Jeff. She is survived by her brothers Anthony Flores, Floyd Flores, Michael Flores and Joseph Flores.
Mimi was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lynn, and her son, Jeff. She regularly shared stories of them; their love and memories remained etched in Nellie's heart until her last breath. Nellie’s sisters Julia Flores, Sue Flores-Jones and Cindy Flores-Rivas preceded her in death.
A celebration of Nellie's life will be held on Friday, April 19th, from 5-6pm, with visitation from 6-7pm at Yuma Mortuary and Crematory. Interment is Saturday, April 20th, at 9:30am at Wellton Memorial Cemetery.
