Alice Mendivil Obituary

Alice N. Mendivil our Mom/Nana, arrived in heaven on August 21st, 2018.

She was born to Jose and Josephina Nunez in Dome Valley, Arizona on September 2nd, 1933. She resided in Winterhaven, California. 

Mom was a proud Criminal and graduate of Yuma High School. She graduated from AWC and attended ASU receiving her certification in Child Development and Elementary Education.

She started her teaching career at Fort Yuma Headstart, then went on to San Pasqual Elementary School as an Instructional Aide. She finished her teaching career at Crane Rancho Viejo School as an ESL Instructor where she retired after 33 years as an educator. She looked at all her students as her own children.

A very devoted Catholic and a member of St. Thomas, Immaculate Conception and St. Francis Parishes which her and her husband donated their time and music to the churches. An avid member of the PTA of each school her children attended, Girl Scout Leader, Stage Mom for Margorie May Studio and Dancer's Workshop. Active member of the St. Francis Prayer Group and belonged to the Cursillo in Christianity Group. Mom had a gift in sewing, she was proud of all the beautiful dresses she sewed for her daughter's when they were little. Her talent was passed on to them.

Mom always had a beautiful smile which reflected her faith and love for others, especially her Family. An inspiration to everyone who she crossed paths with. Mom was the foundation of her family. A very devoted wife, mother, nana, grandma and great-grandma.

Mom is survived by her husband of 66 years, Ysidro L. Mendivil Sr. Daughters: Mary Frances(Dennis) Englert, Norma(Al) Enriquez, Shirley(Noel) Epke, Sylvia(Rick) Shepard, Melinda (Gonzalo Jr) Munoz. Sons: Ysidro(Lynda) Mendivil Jr., Michael(Sandra) Mendivil. 17 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, and 13 great great-grandchildren. Survived by her brother Frank Nunez.

Proceeded in death by her parents Josephina Nunez and Jose Nunez. Sisters: Amelia Ponce, Mary Perez, Frances Hernandez, Olivia Nunez, Antonia Madrid, Emma Quintero and Irene McMorris-Brophy. Brothers: Jesus, Joe Ray and Manual Nunez.

Visitation Services Friday, Aug. 31st 5pm-7pm Rosary 7pm-8pm at Yuma Mortuary, 775 S 5th Ave. Mass will be Saturday, Sept. 1st at 9:00am at St Francis Church, 1815 S 8th Ave. Please join us in a Celebration of Life Reception immediately following mass at St. Francis Hall.
