December 6, 2018 brought a sudden end to the remarkable life of Gerda Kraus. Gerda, who fled occupied East Germany as a young lady, moved to the US in 1968 and Yuma in 1976. Along with her late husband Adolf, she became a silversmith and jewelry merchant. After the death of her husband in 2003, she continued to hone her skills, ultimately becoming a silversmithing instructor. She was not only beloved by her family, but also her students and her long-time customers, many of whom became good friends. She loved what she did and she did what she loved until the very end. She is survived by her daughters Anne (Kraus) Roman of California and Sabine Hens of Germany, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A private memorial will be held at a later time.
