Alex Chavez was born on April 11, 1955 to Joe and Dolores Chavez in
Carrizozo, New Mexico. He passed away on May 25, 2025 in Yuma,
Arizona, with his daughter Erica at his bedside, after suffering a severe
stroke. He attended Saint Rita School in his grade school years and then
attended Carrizozo Municipal Schools during his high school years. He
served as an Altar Boy and was a fine musician, playing the saxophone
and trombone in the marching band, concert band and stage band. Upon
graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served
his country admirably and honorably. Alex met his wife, Cecelia, in Yuma
and they were married for 44 years until her untimely death. He worked at
a variety of jobs which included the ice cream plant, making deliveries for
the spice company and also managing apartments, a job he did with
Cecelia. He was always hard-working and was quite the handyman and
always gave back to his community. He loved his family very much and
also loved his puppies, especially Blackie and little Gizmo.
He was predeceased by his wife, Cecelia, his father, Joe Chavez, and
his brothers Joseph Chavez and Max Chavez.
He is survived by his daughters, Erica Chavez of Yuma, AZ and Paula
(Christian) Lyle of Tennessee; his son, Edward Vara of Yuma, AZ; his
mother, Dolores Chavez of Carrizozo, NM; his sisters, Juanita Brewer of
Carrizozo, NM and Ella Lubojacky of Arvada, CO; and several
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and was under the direction of Yuma
Mortuary & Crematory. Funeral services are pending at this time.
