Donald L. Shoemaker, 87, of Elwood, Indiana and Yuma, Arizona passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, followed by a brief and unexpected illness. Donald was born on February 5, 1936, in Argos, Indiana to Claude and Susie Shoemaker.
Donald is survived by his wife, his forever love of 70 years, Bonnie Shoemaker; his son, David Shoemaker, Yuma, Arizona and Ft Lauderdale, Fl.; his daughter, Diana Waymire, Elwood, Indiana and Yuma, Arizona; his grandchildren Shawn Waymire ( Amber); Donald Waymire ( Sheena); and Kyley Malocha (Curtis); great grandchildren: Peyton Waymire; Jayden Waymire; Leon Waymire and Logan Waymire; a sister Claudette Canzian (Bruno), sisters-in-law Colleen Hallenbach, Karen Neff (Bob) and Rita Tracy (Owen); plus numerous niece’s & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Warner; brothers in law Chuck Hallenback and Keith Warner and his beloved dog Jasmine.
Donald graduated from Richland Center High School in 1954 and then attended Purdue University. Following Purdue, he went on to work at Delco Electronics, retiring after 30 Years.
Donald enjoyed life to the fullest and with his wife Bonnie spent many years traveling in their RV and wintering in Ft Myer’s Florida with his sister, Barbara & brother-in-law Keith Warner. Summers saw them traveling to Michigan for vacations with Bonnie’s sisters.
He and Bonnie spent many enjoyable years following their grandchildren’s & great grandchildren’s sporting & 4-H events.
Donald cherished and enjoyed being with his family, he loved a good competition in nearly any sport or game of cards. In his youth he was an accomplished water skier, avid angler (hours spent at this with his Dad ) ice skating, baseball & basketball. He pitched for various baseball leagues in Kokomo. He enjoyed raucous games of bridge with his friend Jim Walker and was always ready for a casino excursion.
He will always be in our hearts and fondly remembered for his quick wit, his intellect and his love of his family and his beloved dogs.
