Edith "Edie " Annette Benson passed away on November 7, 2024 as a result of complications from a serious fall. She was 77 years old. Edie was born in Yuma, AZ on December 28, 1946 to Paul James Benson and Mary Anita McMillen Benson.
She grew up in Yuma and was in the first graduating class of Kofa High School. She attended nursing school at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, AZ and she had a long and rewarding career as a surgical nurse. She lived most of her life in Yuma, but she moved to Pomeroy, WA before settling in Mesa, AZ in 2016.
Edie was incredibly talented. She could sew, embroider, knit, crochet, paint, and quilt. She crafted miniatures and produced beautiful pieces of jewelry with intricate bead work. She was an accomplished baker and for several years, she owned a bakery in Yuma called "In the Chips" where her customers could enjoy her amazing chocolate chip cookies and heavenly cinnamon rolls. She loved cats, books, baseball, gardening, and jigsaw puzzles. She was very involved with her church and her bible study group.
Edie was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by numerous cousins from the Huber, Benson, and McMillen families. She was a much-loved member of our family and we will miss her terribly.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14th 2024 at 10:00 am at Yuma Mortuary, 775 S. 5th Avenue, Yuma, AZ, followed by interment at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Edie's memory to your favorite charity.
