Gary Dale Wapler passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Yuma, Arizona, at the age of 83. Born on December 16, 1941, Gary spent his childhood and educational years in Yuma, attending local schools before graduating from Yuma High. He pursued some college education at Northern Arizona University. He was later drafted into the Vietnam war where he served in the U.S. Army from 1964-1966.
Following his military service, Gary embarked on a long and distinguished career with L.A. Yuma Freight-lines. Over 42 years, he dedicated himself as a local driver and later as a dock foreman, earning numerous safety awards for his commitment and expertise.
Gary was a man who radiated warmth and kindness, known for his slick dance moves and ability to light up any room he entered. He was a caring father and grandfather, deeply involved in the lives of his family members. Gary is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Wapler; children, Janet (Brad) Travis, Sherri Wapler (Rich Cuming), and Bart (Leticia) Wapler; grandchildren, Kaylnn (Jeren) Ostberg, Harley (Ryan) Hancock, Wyatt (Maddie) Travis, Skylar (Ryan) Wallace, Alyson Cloud (Keandre Smith), and Aubrey (Frank) Fanning; and 6.5 great-grandchildren. His parents, Dale and Margaret Wapler, preceded him in death.
An avid camper and car enthusiast, Gary cherished his time outdoors, whether it was showcasing his El Camino at Midnight at the Oasis or fishing at Hawley Lake. His summers were often spent in Pinetop with lifelong friends, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
A funeral service will be held on May 14th, at 11 AM at Yuma Mortuary, followed by a burial at Desert Lawn. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Yuma, honoring Gary's compassionate spirit. Gary's legacy of love, dedication, and joy will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
