It is with deep sorrow to inform that Mr. Isabel H. Nuñez has passed away February 7th, 2020, at the age of 81. Mr. Nuñez was born July 8th, 1938 in Durango, Mexico. He came to the United States at the age of 18 to pursue his “American Dream”. He began his journey by farming for Mr. Clyde Bowman a Bard Valley pioneer. It is then when Mr. Nuñez discovered he was strongly fascinated by date cultivation. He worked hard to make his dream a reality, and in 1972, he purchased his first date farm. Under his love and care the date farm began to thrive, and a year later he acquired Imperial Date Gardens, Inc. He took a unique Medjool Date Tree that nearly went extinct in the early 1900’s, and built the largest Medjool Date Company in the United States. Much of the success of Imperial Date Gardens is due to the personal pride and close attention to product quality, that Mr. Nuñez and his family showed their sweet Medjool Dates. Even though there were hundreds employees at the peak of the season to tend operation, Mr. Nuñez would be seen working shoulder to shoulder personally nurturing his product to ensure only the dates that met his highest standards would be allowed to represent Imperial Date Gardens. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and companions. May he rest in peace alongside his daughter Mari Nuñez-Valleau.
