Janet Lorraine Bjorum passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on May 16, 2023.
She was born Jan. 20, 1936, in Minnesota, to Charles and Violet Gilbert.
The love of her life, her husband, Bernard Harold “Ben” Bjorum, preceded her in death. They were a pair
– he as tall as she was petite, both deeply religious and active in their community. Their families initially
were doubtful when they met at a reunion. He was 12 years her senior, already married and divorced
twice, with three kids and much more traveled than she. She had not been much further than
Minnesota, North and South Dakota, but, “you betcha,” they were smitten. Each one’s face would light
up when the other walked in the room, and Ben must be beaming to be with her again.
Janet is survived by stepson James H. “BJ” Bjorum (Gayle) of Henderson, Nevada; stepdaughter Mary
Elizabeth “Liz” Childers (Verl) of Itasca, Texas; and granddaughters Carey Clagett, Lindsay Savala, Kelley
Strona, Holly Hibbeler and Heather Peace, all from Texas. Her stepson and Ben’s namesake, Hal Bjorum,
preceded them in death.
An enthusiastic Christian, she was a member of Calvary Temple of Christ, active in Women’s Aglow and
prayer ministries. Not content to just pray for the country, she served as Precinct Committeeman for the
Yuma County Republican Precinct #7, along with Ben.
She relished her role of grandmother, and over the years informally adopted several local families to
love and nurture. She faced her death with the same grace God gave her. Her love and generosity not
only marked her life, it defined how she faced her trials and inspired those whose lives she touched.
