Joanne Russell Buchanan Millard, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, was born on
July 31, 1941 and passed away on February 24, 2026. Her husband of 55 years, Jack Millard,
passed away one day later. Raised in Santa Barbara, California, Joanne earned a Bachelor’s
Degree in History from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a Master’s Degree in
Library Science from the University of California, Berkeley. She worked as a Reference Librarian
for 40 years, including 20 years in the Yuma County Library system, where she managed the
Reference Department and pioneered the Special Services program for senior, disabled and
homebound Yumans.
Joanne loved her family above all. She was endlessly compassionate and thoughtful and
enjoyed caring for animals, knitting and crocheting, gardening, learning and reading (although
she always read the last page of a book first, to make sure it had a happy ending!). She was a
member of Immaculate Conception Parish for 40 years. She is survived by her son Robert
Millard, her daughter Kathleen “Jeanie” Lohmann, her son-in-law Brian Lohmann, grandsons
Django George Lohmann and Alistair Keefe Lohmann, and many nieces and nephews. A
memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a
donation to ChildFund or Doctors Without Borders, or simply visit your local library and thank a
librarian for their hard work.
