Jodi Elizabeth Mai (age 48) passed away at her mother’s home in Yuma, Arizona on July 9, 2021 after a 5-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was preceded by her father, Robert Mai, and is survived by her mother, Margaret Polen (husband, Steve), two brothers Jason and Justin Mai, grandmother Marceline Bender, nieces Sara and Haley Mai, sisters-in-law Gaylynn and Jembaa Mai, as well as 13 cousins and 12 aunts & uncles, much adored.
With a strong sense of duty -- and a childhood watching Adam-12 and Emergency! -- she found her most fulfilling work as an 11-year veteran of the Yuma Police Department, first in Records then as an Evidence Tech, where her work ethic and desire for organization found their purpose.
Off-hours she traveled to Kansas and England and Greece, devoured science fiction, followed equestrian sports, watched veterinary shows, cooked moussaka and baklava, spent time with family and friends, and worked on a variety of crafting and DIY projects around her condo. Most of all, Jodi loved her pets, walking the dogs at 5am daily (before the Yuma heat) and caring for her own cats while fostering others. She will be missed.
Friends and family are invited to gather for an informal come-and-go Celebration of Life at the Community Room of the Yuma Police Department on Saturday, July 24 between 2 and 4pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name are suggested for the Humane Society of Yuma (www.hsoyuma.com) or the Yuma Police Department Employee Recognition Committee (c/o Nancy Felix, Administrative Assistant, 1500 S. 1st Ave, Yuma, AZ 85364)
