Maria Chim Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Chim Loera Pino, age 65, who peacefully transitioned on December 19, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her home in Yuma, Arizona.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Cecilio Loera and Teresa Pino, and by her sisters Francisca, Jesusa, Gloria, and Mayte.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Teresa Loera; Emma (Derek) Chim Currier; Gabriela (James) Chim; Jose (Diana) Rosales; Vicky (Brodeli) Villan Chim; and Jose “Chito” Chim. Her children find comfort in knowing that she is now resting in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

She is also survived by her siblings Teles (Martha), Javier (Lourdes), Chilo, Liz (Tony), Claudia (Brandee), and Martin; her beloved seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; extended family; her devoted caregivers Karina and Feliciana; her women’s group; her church family; and countless friends whose lives she touched with her love and generosity.

Maria was born on January 23, 1960, in San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, Mexico. Her parents later moved the family to Somerton, Arizona, where they lived in what was fondly known as “la casa grande.”She was a proud graduate of Kofa High School.

Maria was a migrant worker and a true entrepreneur, qualities that shaped her life and that she lovingly instilled in her children. As a young adult, she traveled between Arizona and California harvesting produce, doing whatever was necessary to provide for her family. In addition to her day job, to support her household, Maria and her children spent many weekends making and selling tamales, teaching them the value of hard work, discipline, and self-reliance. She was a remarkably resilient woman, and the fruits of her labor and sacrifice are evident in the lives of her children, of whom she was immensely proud.

Maria had a deep passion for God, her children and grandchildren, attending church, helping others, listening to gospel music, and shopping. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her decisions and sustaining her through every season.

At the end of her life, Maria faced her journey with extraordinary courage and made the brave decision to enter hospice care. Thanks to the exceptional care and support of Hospice of Yuma, her family was blessed with an additional week to cherish her presence, surrounded by love and peace in the comfort of her home. This precious time was an immeasurable gift that will forever be held close to our hearts.

Church services will be held on December 24, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Iglesia de Jesucristo del Evangelio Completo, followed by burial. A Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday, January 23, 2026, honoring the beautiful life she lived.

Although Maria’s physical presence no longer graces our lives, her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us. May her memory be a blessing, and may we carry forward her legacy of faith, love, strength, and compassion in all that we do.

Mom, your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
