Tanya Joyce Cooper of the Quechan Indian Tribe in Winterhaven, CA, age 80, transitioned on January 10,
2025, in Yuma, AZ surrounded with love after a long journey. Tanya was born in Pasadena, CA on March
14, 1944, to the late Alfreda C. Hill and Carl Stone.
Tanya was proceeded in death by her mother and brother, Ronald Hil of Parker, AZ. Those to cherish her
legacy are her children Twana Simar (Bradley) of Port Arthur, TX, Preston Miller, II (Yanessa) of
Belmullet, Ireland, and Onawa Miller of Roanoke, VA, and special kinship daughters Adina Alvarez (Leo)
and Andrea Chaipos, grandchildren Zachary Stelly (Nicole), Ashton Stelly, Dustin Stelly (Emilee), Zoe
Miller, David Allen, Zina Allen, and Zion Allen and 5 kinship grandchildren Angelito Alvarez, Leo Daniel
Alavarez, Victor Alvarez, Andrew Luna, and Samuel Luna and an extended host of relatives and friends.
Services will be held Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 2 PM at Yuma Mortuary in Yuma, AZ followed by a
traditional Tribal ceremony at 5 PM at the Quechan Big House in Winterhaven, CA.
