It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Teresa M Avila, a loving and devoted wife,
mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all whose lives she touched. She passed away on
December 31, 2020 while sleeping peacefully at her home in Yuma, AZ with family by her side. She was
80.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Antonio and Victoria Moreno. She is survived by her husband
Raul Avila, son Timothy Avila (Debbie) and daughters Denise Avila Taylor (Todd) and Susan Avila and
grandchildren: Dominic, Blake and Isabella Avila and Ashley, Ariana and Allison Taylor and sisters:
Margie and Alice and brothers: Tony and Henry.
Teresa was born and raised in Yuma, AZ and lived a full and wonderful life. She was a devout Catholic
who attended Immaculate Conception church and taught CCD for many years. She had a long and
successful career holding several administrative assistant positions. She worked for the Yuma City
Administrator and for AZ State Senator Lito Pena. While working as a clerk of the Superior Court she had
the honor of swearing in her Father as a US citizen. She eventually became a small business owner with
a clothing store in downtown Yuma. She was a firm believer in education and saw her son graduate from
Yale University and saw her 2 daughters graduate from The University of Notre Dame. She loved
supporting her children and grand children in all their hobbies and activities and attending their many
events. She especially loved watching them play sports and was a founding member and coach in the
original youth city soccer league.
Viewing will be held at Yuma Mortuary on January 19 th , 2021 at 5pm followed by a rosary at 7pm. A
private mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi church on January 20, 2021 at 11:30 am followed by a
graveside service at Desert Lawn Memorial Park at 1 pm. Mass will be live streamed at
stfrancisyuma.com.
